Efficiency Envy

Last year UPS shaved 28.5 million miles off its delivery routes, saving about 3 million tons of gas and reducing CO2 emissions by 31,000 metric tons. How? Mostly by eliminating left turns on their routes.

I want them to use their "package flow" software on me. And my Christmas presents (please send presents).

Not cut out for capitalism

I had grand, vague ambitions to get out there this morning to buy myself a Playstation 3. The idea would be to maximize my abundant resource (time), swoop in just before the store opened today, lay down the $600, and then sell the thing for double on eBay. After reading reports of the freaky fanboys out in force, however--some camped out in front of stores for 3 DAYS--I thought better of it. Also, Anna needed the car. Also, the Best Buy nearby opened at 8 this morning, not 10. Also, the fanboys scare me.

Oh well. Back to my regularly scheduled programming.
