Back in Action
There have been some changes around here. For one thing, I am married now.
Anna and I got married on a beautiful day in Tucson a little over two weeks ago. It was wonderful to see everyone. In fact, constantly running across my best friends and closest relatives in the unexpected venue of Tucson was what made the whole thing real. While Anna and I were running around organizing things the wedding was just another logistical challenge, but once we were at the rehearsal in the church, saying most (but not all) of the magic words, it hit me. I thought about turning my phone from vibrate to off, but then realized that most of the people on earth most likely to call me were already in the room.
So we got married, and it was great. There were prickly pear mimosas, and mariachis of varying size. We had delicious food, excellent drink, and a grand time in general. Then, we left for our honeymoon in Hawaii, which was also excellent. I almost decapitated a sea turtle, the snorkeling was so good. And there were mai tais.
Now I am back, and reality is sitting on my head, clubbing me with a bat. I am not quite ready to wake up, but I guess I’d better sometime soon…

Off to the races
Life is a blur of paper-grading, paper-writing and last-minute planning as I try to get everything done before the big day. I actually feel less stressed out now than I did a few weeks ago. It's worth mentioning that Anna is really doing almost all of the planning work...but there's still enough to go around. Especially since I have a remarkable capacity to expand problems to fit the available space.
Once we leave for Tucson next week I'm sure life will move into an even more frantic, logistical mode. It's hard to believe so many people we know will be getting together next weekend! It will be really fun to see everyone.

Getting suited
Round 348 of trying to purchase a suit for marryin' in:
ED and ANNA stand in the Macy's mens' suits department, enclosed by pinstripes as if by iron bars.
ED: AAAH! I can't decide! AAAH!
ANNA: Well, what do you want?
ED: AAAAH! They don't have the Right Thing.
ANNA: AAAAAH!
ED: Why is it so hard to find a decent suit for less than $500? Why am I 6'4"? Why do we wear these mysterious garments anyway?
ED attempts to smother himself with a subdued herringbone.
ED: AAAAAAH!

- Intention to wed.

Engaged!
That's right, I asked the lovely Anna to marry me, and she said yes. More details will emerge as things move along, but for now, you can peruse the engagement FAQ:
When is the wedding?
We are tentatively planning to trammel the limn of hymeneal bliss sometime in 2007, but we're not in a rush. There aren't that many windows when we're both off from school, thanks to the stupidity of the law school semester system, so it'll fall during one of them. But we're not really thinking about that yet.
Are you/we actually old enough to be engaged?
Yes, can you believe it? We're both 25. I don't know how old you are.
How did I do it?
I am very sneaky.
No, really?
I achieved complete strategic surprise, and proposed in the way I knew Anna would prefer (hence maximizing my odds). It was low-key and private, in our apartment, and the ring was stowed in a drawer of the coffee table. In her shocked rapture, Anna elbowed me in the face, but only a little bit, and with love. It was awesome.
Why?
I've been dreading the wedding logistics, but not the commitment part, and I realized they didn't have to be part of the same decision. And it was Valentine's Day, Observed (because I had class on actual V Day). So that's why. Seems like a natural next step.
Can you look at anything other than Anna's left hand?
NO. Can you look at anything other than her left hand?
May I send presents?
Absolutely! We welcome presents at every stage of the matrimonial process, from first glance to anniversaries.
